Tape Drives Data Recovery

Tape Drive Data RecoveryDue to the design and functionality of Linear Tape Cartridges, reading and extracting data can become a complicated and laborious process needing specialised skills.

I.Tech engineers are highly skilled and professionally trained to handle tape recovery situations. Our clean room in our laboratory ensures that your data is always secure and professionally handled.

Starting with a telephone consultation on our free phone number, you will be provided with the help and expertise you need in order to put your data back into a more productive environment. Once your media is received it will undergo a full diagnostic evaluation in our secure data recovery lab. This will allow our engineers to accurately diagnose the problem with your media and provide you with a price for the full data recovery process.

Once you have approved the quote, our highly trained engineers will then perform the data recovery process, working low level (using hexadecimal) in order to fully recover the data from the damaged media.

'I.Tech's Tape Data Recovery can recover your data and reduce you downtime to an absolute minimum, saving you thousands in lost revenue.'

Tape Drives

It is a standard practice to back up computer systems and servers on to tape drives. They are considered fast and efficient, however, tapes can be written incorrectly, have early end of data markers, or become corrupt over an extended period of time. I.Tech Computers have recovered tapes that have become corrupt due to many situations including: Accidental overwrite of data, incorrectly inserted tapes, 'chewn up' tapes, tapes with de-oxidised corruptions, and many more. I.Tech Computers utilise software and hardware techniques to ensure maximum data is retrieved. Our in-house coders are always striving to ensure the best recovery of data is available to you.

We have a recovery process that includes the following tape formats:

  • 4mm
  • DAT, DDS, DDS2, DDS3, DDS4
  • 8mm Quantum and DLT tapes
  • Seagate, AIT, OnStream, ADR and Travan tapes
  • QIC mini cartridge tapes
  • Reel-to-reel data tapes
  • 9-track tape recovery and conversion
  • 1/2" tape reels
  • 1/4" Cartridge

I.Tech Computers will thoroughly examine your tape for any kind of damage, whether it is physical or logical, before any attempt is made to recover the data. Our first concern is to secure a copy of your data to the fullest extent possible; this can be achieved by performing a low-level read of your tape. We will then work from a secure copy of your data, (held on our main storage servers, then copied over to an individual workstation), to identify the format and determine what utility will be needed to complete the recovery.

'Your RAID system has failed, and now everyone is banking on the untested tape back-up to save the day.'

Financial, regulatory and legal requirements dictate that companies retain data and have it readily available for production upon request. Most companies believe they have such a capability but learn at a very inconvenient (and potentially expensive) time that this is not the case.

In the world of Electronic Discovery, also known as Computer Forensics, the investigators job is to accurately extract data from storage media and to examine it in a forensically sound manner for potentially relevant data or evidence. I.Tech Computers can examine this data, and produce a report which can then be used as evidence in a court of law. Should there be a requirement for someone to interpret this information, then our Expert Witness trained staff are able to testify for and on behalf of your client.
